This Week's Haul

This week I spent $35 on groceries. I took a picture to help myself see where my money goes. I bought no meat this week. I bought barely any veggies and no fruit. I still spent $35 and bought almost no processed foods!!!! Crap!

I feel like I'm on a hamster wheel that I can't get off. How did the price of feeding ourselves get so high?

Did you ever try shopping at ALDI's? Their prices are really good and their produce is decent most of the time.

They are a German owned and operated store. I have a German friend who said he grew up on ALDI's.

I find it ironic that people are now just noticing the high grocery prices. I have been commenting to my husband, friends and family for at least a couple of years about the rise in food prices. In fact, that was when I made the decision to start shopping at ALDI's. I found that I saved at least a third on my grocery bill.

There are some things you need to keep in mind when you shop at ALDI's. First, you need to bring your own bags, or you can buy some there. They are cheap. Second, you need to bring a quarter to get a shopping cart. You get the quarter back when you return the cart. These are some of the things ALDI does to keep their prices lower.

Also, most of their food, including their cereals are very good. The one area that I find they are lacking is the meat department. Their meat is not as good as Giant Eagle's meat, but their lunch meat and cheeses are good.

The other thing I like about ALDI's is I feel that I am contributing less waste because I use non-disposable bags when I shop. I used to have so many plastic grocery bags that I ended up throwing them in the garbage, now I don't.

I hope you will give ALDI's a try. Hopefully there is one near you.

Good luck with your quest for saving.
