Stretching Grocery Dollars

I have to do a lot more of this before it will be second nature, but, my goal is to eat as inexpensively as possible.

I started off my week with a pretty stocked fridge. When I went grocery shopping I planned to spend very little. In fact, I decided I needed no meat. But, I decided to check for any bargains anyway, and I came up with the mother load. I bought over 10 lbs of ground beef for about $15. I thought this was pretty good. I packed them all up into baggies, about 1/2 lb each. This makes the price of the meat in each meal I will make roughly $.75.

Yesterday, I used my meat to make lasagna. I bought the sauce at the dollar store. I bought the noodles on sale in the supermarket for $1.00. I bought the mozerella cheese on sale for $2.50. I had the ricotta on hand already, and I don't remember what I paid for that. I will guess it was about $2.50 also. That makes the cost of everything about $7.75 We made eight servings with this, so our cost per meal was about $.97. It fits into my "under a buck per meal" budget.

Stay tuned to what I do next!
